Hello there!

Greetings -

Many things have happened in the real world since I last posted something in the blog, causing me to pause everything.

In spite of the above, I still want to make the jump to Unity.  I dusted off Space Quartz and began anew.  I can tell you the learning curve is steep, but it feels quite gratifying to see your program evolve.  Unity is a powerful tool in the right hands.  Which are not yet mine, of course!

I still have several things to iron out, including the addition of the enemy ships, certain event timers and/or triggers, and finish the graphics and/or animations.

I hope to see this one through without further complications.  Regards.

Archer (Sheshou) is available at the App Store!

Hello -

Archer (Sheshou) is available at Apple's App Store!

Help the Archer (Sheshou) hunt the ducks flying overhead before the timer expries.  Use the left and right buttons to move the archer, and tap on the screen to shoot arrows.  The lanterns will block your arrows from hitting the ducks.

Try to beat the high score!

Space Quartz: updated!

Hello -

I'm happy to inform that Space Quartz has been updated!

The game has new graphics and improved game mechanics.  You will note rotation and speed deliver a more crisp experience.  This improves the game.  Also, graphics have been refined, with new fonts, colors, and improved renderings.

The app is universal, so go grab it on your iDevice!

Porting Space Quartz to Unity

Hello -

Let's document what is needed to port Space Quartz from its existing GS format to Unity.

Deliverables:

  • Game Assets - Graphics are done, audio is pending.
  • Collisions - Poligonal colliders are done.
  • Controls - Rudimentary controls work.  I need to improve on controller input and also provide controller support for a successful tvOS port.
  • On-Screen Data - not started.  This refers to score, lives, options, and possibly instructions.
  • Rules / events - not started.  This will be the last item on the list given the need to change code from GS to C++.

This is what I have thus far:

Items are not yet to scale.  Only the Neidalus (player's ship, if you haven't already downloaded the existing port ;) ) is working, although not yet up to my requirements.  Notice the 16:9 aspect ratio - it's the tvOS aspect.  I put in the direction buttons for porting to iOS and Android as well.

Merry Christmas!

Hello -

Just dropping by to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

As for app making, I'm experimenting porting one of my existing apps to another language/engine.  I will provide details in a more structured manner in a subsequent post.  Some basics already work; I just have not sat down to take my notes.  I will either put pencil to paper or jot them down here.

Please stand by...

Hello -

I have decided to explore other game engines to improve the quality of my apps.  As such, I will be off the air for a while.  Also, being December, I'm extra busy at the office.  No, I don't make toys.  Thanks for your patience and understanding; I hope to see you soon!
